Charles Akmentins 'Honey Bee'

MAGNOLIA - Charles Akmentins died, Dec. 29, 2008. Charles was born in Latvia and he spent most of his life in the Magnolia area. His father and mother, Janis Akmentins and Marijanna Gutans Akmentins, preceded him in death. Charles attended Caesar Rodney High School, class of 1959. He left school at an early age to help his father with the Beekeeping Business, "Delmarva Honey Farms". Hence his long time nickname Honey Bee. In his later years, Charles was a self-employed builder trading under the name of Dover Siding Co. Charles served in the Army National Guard of Delaware. He was a charter member and past Governor of Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge 203. He proudly received his United States citizenship on Feb. 1, 1995. Charles enjoyed playing pool, playing poker, pond fishing and having skull talks with his grandchildren and feeding the birds. He also enjoyed the atmosphere of Spence's Bazaar and Wilsons Auction. Charles loved life and enjoyed talking to people. He never met a stranger. Charles is survived by his wife, Ethyl; and three devoted daughters and their spouses, Rachel Akmentins-Springer and John Springer Sr., Sandra Lynn Satterfield and Roger Satterfield, and Karla Alexia Akmentins and Garry Birney. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Grieta Whittendale and her husband Tom Whittendale; and five grandchildren, John Thomas Springer Jr., Joy Tabatha Springer, Jordan Taylor Springer, Lanie Lynn Satterfield and Ryan Sebastian Akmentins. Many brother and sister in laws also survive him and a host of nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963. Delaware Hospice opened their home to Charles in his final days and saw that he had a comfortable and peaceful passing. Condolences may be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
