Cecile Lou Browning Tiemeyer Uffner, 64
SMYRNA - Cecile Lou Browning Tiemeyer Uffner of Smyrna died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 64.
Mrs. Uffner was born July 10, 1943, in Albany, Ore., to the late Master Sgt. Cecil Lee Browning and Emma Lou Desford Browning.
Mrs. Uffner graduated high school in Lamar, Colo.
After high school she entered the U.S. Army.
She was schooled at basic training at Ft. McCullen, Ala., in the military code and justice.
After graduation, Mrs. Uffner was further schooled and graduated at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Brook Army Medical Hospital in medical surgical nursing.
Mrs. Uffner worked at the hospital with burn patients who were flown in from Vietnam.
She was transferred back to Fort McCullen, where she worked in the operating room at the post hospital.
Mrs. Uffner moved to Milford in 1968, where she spent time volunteering for two years as a co-chairwoman of the Milford Hospital Fair, chairwoman of the Heart Fund drive, cancer fund drive and a board member of the Delaware Arthritis Foundation, also chairperson for the steering committee of the TTF Community Health Centers of Southern Delaware.
While her three children were in Milford public schools, Mrs. Uffner studied at the University of Delaware, Salisbury University and the University of Oklahoma, working on a Bachelor"s in Art Education.
After graduation and teaching art to school children and adults, she won juried art shows for her sculptures. She traveled and worked in fairs and festivals making and selling her artwork.
In 1976, Mrs. Uffner was in Who"s Who of American Women.
After her children grew up, she traveled and moved to the Western area of the United States.
Mrs. Uffner worked in transportation as an engineer for the railroad, transportation specialist for Trailways, Inc.; she was also a Realtor with Century 21, CEO Self Help Legal Service and AAA Global Development.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Aimee Suzann Uffner Nov. 17, 1981.
Mrs. Uffner is survived by her son, Jeffrey L.M. Uffner of Smyrna; her daughter, Shelley Maloney of Felton; three brothers, Jack D. Browning of Lubbock, Texas, Robert Lee Browning of Florida and Thomas D. Browning of Dover; grandchildren, Eric Todd Maloney Jr. of the U.S. Navy stationed in Virginia, Tabethia H. Maloney of Houston, Jeffrey S., Morgan E., Jacob M. Uffner, all of Smyrna, and Dylan Cole Cooper of Felton.
A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Presbyterian Church of Dover, 54 S. State St., Dover.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.
Interment will be in Barratt"s Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
