FARMVILLE, Va. - Mrs. Catherine "Cathy" Gannon passed away at her home in Farmville, Va. on November 11, 2013. She was born on April 19, 1935 in New York, daughter of the late, Anna and Peter Kramer. Her parents moved to Cambridge, Md. in 1940 where she grew up and attended East New Market High School. After graduating High School she went to Nursing School at McQueens, Gibbs, Willis School and graduated in 1955. She worked as a nurse for many years at Corsica Hills Nursing Home where she served as Director of Nursing. In 1970's she went on to the University of Maryland and received her Bachelors Degree. She taught Nursing for a time at Queen Anne's High School and then went to work for the Del-Marva Foundation investigating Medicare fraud. After retiring she and her husband moved to Farmville, Va. to enjoy a slower pace of life. She was pre-deceased by her mother and father, Anna and Peter Kramer; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nellie and Connolly Gannon both from Centreville, Md. Mrs. Gannon is survived by her husband of 58 years, John F. Gannon of Farmville, Va.; three children, Catherine T. "Teri" and Victor Wood, John C. "Jay", Sr. and Debbie Gannon and Thomas K. and Dorothy Gannon, all of Centreville, Md.; a brother, Jack Kramer of Cambridge, Md., and her devoted and caring sister, Ann Davenport of Farmville, Va.; seven grandchildren, Victoria Dean, Joyce Wood, John C. Gannon, Jr., Adam F. Gannon, Catherine Gannon, Dorothy Gannon and Jennifer Gannon; and two great grandchildren, Victor Dean and Bryan Hatch. Funeral services were 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Centreville, Md. where friends and family called one hour prior. Burial will be at Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville, Md. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Hospice Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.fhnfuneralhome.com
