Calvin Edwin 'Wink' Savage, 59

MILLSBORO - Calvin Edwin "Wink" Savage of Millsboro slipped away suddenly Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was 59.

He was born Jan. 16, 1948, in Frankford, son of the late James Edward Sr. and Hattie Ella (Ennis) Savage.

Calvin attended William C. Jason High School.

Upon leaving high school he entered the U.S. Army.

After being honorably discharged, Calvin began his work life with Conrail. He worked many years training horses in the Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania areas.

Upon leaving the horse industry, he began working in the restaurant business at Key Largo, Fenwick Inn and Fagers Island, to name a few, with Fenwick Inn being the most joyous. There he taught most of his nephews how to cook and to earn a living.

Calvin was an avid lover of horse races, football and cards. He became known to his family as the greatest Spades player in the country.

He was also an avid reader of the daily newspaper and enjoyed reading the Bible and discussing different topics of the Word.

Calvin will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Sylvester (Shirley) Savage Sr. and James (Gloria) Savage Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Frederick Murray.

He leaves to cherish his memories for a lifetime two brothers, Harold Savage of Ocean View and William Smith of Philadelphia; three sisters, Mabel Parker of Berlin, Md., Christine (Charles) Collick of Colorado Springs and Mary Murray of Millsboro; a special companion of 29 years, Ruth Roberts; five children he cared for as his own, David Duperron of Clarksville, Donald Duperron of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kevin Duperron of Delcastle, Kim Hesernan of Holiday, Fla., and Keri Duperron of Millsboro; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call two hours prior to the services. Burial will be private on Monday at Mount Wesley Cemetery, Snow Hill, Md.

Arrangements by Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro.
