Bowen Starkey

CHURCH HILL, Md. - Bowen "Jack" Starkey, 89, of Church Hill, Md., died April 30, 2011, in Chester River Hospital, Chestertown, Md. Mr. Starkey was born on May 6, 1921, the last of 15 children to survive of the late Hurvey and Mary Ireland Starkey. He was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran serving in North Africa and Italy. A lifetime resident of Queen Anne's County, working for Kingstown Tractor as a mechanic and shop foreman for over 30 years. He was a life member of VFW Post 652 in Millington and Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36 in Chestertown. Also a member of the Maryland Waterman's Association. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Georgia Stowman Starkey in 2009. Mr. Starkey is survived by his five children, Loretta Reynolds and Charles Starkey, both of Church Hill, Linda Gustafson and her husband Lee of Ingleside, Nancy Roe and her husband Buddy of Goldsboro, and Edward Starkey and his wife Kim of Chestertown; four grandchildren, Amy Geisel, Jack Gustafson, Richard Gustafson, and Buddy Roe; three step-grandchildren, Laura Johnson, Ronald W. Roe, Jr., and Michael Gustafson; 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 7, in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Memorials may be offered to Chester River Home Care and Hospice, 6602 Church Hill, Rd. Chestertown, MD 21620. www.galenafuneralhomeofsls.com
