DOVER - Billy Joe Poyner of Dover went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 4, 2015 in Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was 83 years old. Mr. Poyner was born February 26, 1932 in Missouri to the late Jack and Pauline Poyner of Fort Scott, Kansas. He honorably served in the United States Army and Army Reserves for eight years. He was a milkman and route manager at Diamond State Dairies, veterinarian assistant, and a mechanic and millwright for W.L. Wheatley. Mr. Poyner was a member of the Bible Fellowship Church in Camden and served as an elder. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, golfing, his many dogs, especially his beloved "Skipper", and spending time with his grandchildren. Joe also enjoyed sports and especially loved supporting his local Caesar Rodney and University of Delaware teams and all of his grandchildren's sporting events. He is survived by his wife of six years, Gessilda M. Poyner. Joe was married to the late Ann Poyner, wife of 49 years, and is survived by their five children, Susan Brauer (Steve) of San Antonio, Texas, Ray Poyner (Debi) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Karen Heeney (the late George Heeney) of Allen, Texas; Lisa Beil (Nate) of Parkton, Maryland; and Richard Poyner of Richmond, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Emily), Dylan, and Carly Brauer, Neil Poyner, Patrick and Lauren Heeney, and Kristin and Zach Beil. Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover. Friends may call 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, April 10, 2015. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or the Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
