DOVER - Betty Ann Marie Shipley DeGraffenreid passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022, peacefully with her family by her side. She was born May 19, 1929, in Pikesville, Maryland to the late Thornton Shipley and Mary Cooney Shipley.
Mrs. DeGraffenreid grew up in Lewes, Delaware where she loved to sunbathe and spend her days at the beach. She was a graduate of St. Francis University with her degree in Nursing, she worked at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna as a RN. Betty attended the YMCA and volunteered there as well. She enjoyed the Philadelphia Phillies, softball, crossword puzzles, and watching game shows. One of her favorite things to do was traveling with her sister, Dorothy, to Atlantic City, NJ.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Douglas DeGraffenreid; her oldest son, William DeGraffenreid; sister, Dorthy Futchko; brother, Thornton "Bud" Shipley; sister, Mary Andrews; and brother, Stuart Shipley.
Mrs. DeGraffenreid is survived by her children, Walter Shipley DeGraffenreid of Lincoln, DE, Tami (Mike) of PA, Jerry Jr. DeGraffenreid of ND, Donna Reyes of TX, Mary Casarez of TX; grandson, Douglas (Heather) of PA; and four great granddaughters.
William DeGraffenreid will also be interred.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-12 p.m., Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover, DE. Graveside services will at Cape Henlopen Memorial Park, 28787 Lockerman Rd., Milton, DE, following the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org
