CAMDEN - Barbara A. Remus, 70, of Camden, died on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011. Barbara was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on June 20, 1941, to the late Sallie and Francis Woolson. She grew up in Philadelphia among many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. She moved to Delaware in 1955 with her parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters. A graduate of Dover High School and a former Miss Dover and contestant in Miss Delaware pageant, she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Wilmington University. She started her career as a Clerk of Court for Kent County and subsequently received a professional designation as a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Specialists and the Wharton School of Business. She was a senior benefits consultant with Brokerage Concepts, which is one of the largest privately held group and individual insurance brokerage company in the United States and she established an independent office in Delaware. She was a member of the Delaware and National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and a fellow of the International Foundation of Certified Employee Benefits Specialists. She was passionate about helping others and politics. Her community service includes: Board member and Vice President, Camden Wyoming Sewer and Water Authority; former appointee to the State Small Employers' Reinsurance Board; and member, Delaware State and Central Delaware Chambers of Commerce. She served as Secretary, Dover Century Club; Vice President, Kent County Democrat Committee; Commissioner, State Public Integrity Commission; member, 34th District Democrat Committee and a member of the Dover Art League and the Dover Century Club. She was a lifelong member of the Roman Catholic Church and was a parish member of Holy Cross in Dover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by step-father, Willard Hagey; a brother, Willard Hagey; and sister, Catherine Felty. Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Carl ("Bud") Remus II; children, Wendy Wagner of Dover, Sallie Kingsley and husband James of Chicago, Ill., Dawn Channer and husband Douglas of Charlestown, S.C., Edie Toolan and husband Matthew of Needham, Mass., Donald Weller and wife Gina of Cleveland, Ohio, Kimberly Blake and husband David of Austin, Texas, and William Weller and wife Tracey of Middletown; siblings, Robert Woolson and wife Linda, Robert Hagey and wife Carol, Eddie Hagey, Rosemary Leager, Cynthia Sumpter, Suzanne Shaffer and husband Jeff; two aunts, Bernice Dymek and Frances Janus; 23 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. A Viewing will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
