SMYRNA - Arthur "Larry" Lawrence Lane, Sr., of Smyrna, Del., after a two year courageous battle with brain tumors passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. He was 77. Larry was born March 31, 1939 in the family home located at Salem Church Road, Ogletown, Del.. He attended Newark High School until 1956. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve for eight years until 1965. His employment history consisted of Delamore Dairy, Tanglewood Deli, Hypoint Dairy, Schwan's Foods and his last employer Southern States Coop of Clayton, DE in 2014. Larry was an excellent provider to his family and a hard worker who would work 24 hours a day if he could. In his free time he maintained his property that he loved and enjoyed spending time with family, friends and neighbors in his converted barn called the Blackbird Lounge. He was an entertainer of sorts between his love for food, cooking crabs, jokes, hospitality for guests and dance moves. Larry enjoyed helping out anyone who would ask if he was able to do so. He enjoyed listening to country music and watching his favorite shows on television, especially ME TV and caring for his 2005 Dodge Hemi and his two John Deere mowers. He and Alice spent many Saturday evenings during their marriage in the late 80's and 90's at the New Castle Moose Lodge dancing to their favorite (Country Music). He was preceded in death by his father, Rudy Lane; mother, Hazel (Davis) Lane; brothers, Bill Lane and Stanley Lane; and his sister, Renda (Lane) Hoffecker. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Alice (Moore) Lane; children, Lawrence Frushon, companion Karen Javorsky, Karen Frushon, Arthur (Art) Lane, Jr. (Barb), Glen Lane (DeAnn) and Chris Lane; grandchildren, Craig Frushon, Cody Lane, Amber Frushon, companion Kenneth Bowersox, Jr., Courtney (Lane) Snyder, husband Seth Snyder, Brandon Lane and Joseph Frushon; sisters, Peggy Roberts (Tom now deceased) and Fay Reusch (Bill); numerous nieces and nephews, including Tom Roberts, Sue Roberts, Debbie Reusch and many others. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 10 am in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park in Wilmington. Please omit flowers. Flowers wither and die, but Larry believed that education improves the mind and keeps it fertile. In accordance with Larry's wishes it is suggested that donations be mailed c/o The Larry Lane Grandchild Education Fund, Citizens Bank, 5 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, DE 19977, for his grandchildren; Amber Frushon, Courtney Lane, Brandon Lane and Joseph Frushon who have expressed a desire to continue their education. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the workers at Season's Hospice for their comfort and assistance during this very emotional time. Condolence letters may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
