HENDERSON, Md. - Arthur L. Bounds passed away on June 1, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Arthur was born on May 20, 1930 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Mae Forsey Bounds & John Leslie Bounds. He graduated from Manual Training HS and worked for Continental Insurance Co. for 40 years, retiring as an Underwriter. He took a leave from Continental to serve in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. While in HS he was the editor of the Manual Weekly, on the literary staff of the year book Prospect. In the Coast Guard he was editor Fore 'n Aft. A course in calligraphy gave him the incentive he needed to start The Pegasus Review a literary magazine with each page done in calligraphy. Writers from all over the world were included in this publication for over 30 years. Art was on the Vestry and Sr. Warden at St. Johns Episcopal Church, Brooklyn, N.Y., Christ Church, Staten Island, N.Y. and St. Dunstan, Succasunna, N.J. He became a lay reader and would provide comfort to the residents of Maryheart Nursing Home. He was a volunteer for Literacy of America and took pride in teaching reading to those who couldn't Art was a prolific writer and published over 200 poems, short stories, plays and a yearly Writers Calendar. Eldridge Publishing purchased his play "Behold the Lamb of God". His play "The Ristorante" was performed at the Black River Playhouse, Chester, N.J. and Church Hill Theater, Md. He was Past President of the Eastern Shore Writers Association. He loved teaching calligraphy and making his students laugh. He is survived by his wife, Paula Bounds of 50 years whom he married on May 17, 1964; three children and spouses, David and Barbara Bounds, Sparta, N.J., Christine and William Rochow, Henderson and Andrew and Susanne Bounds, Wilmington, Del.; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Alex, Ryan, Derek, Kimberly, Dylan and Cheyanna. Art choose to donate his body to MD State Anatomy Board. A celebration of his life will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014 at his home in Henderson.
