Arthur "Art" Burnice Burnette, 72

BOWERS BEACH - Arthur "Art" Burnice Burnette of Bowers Beach died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at home. He was 72.

Mr. Burnette was born April 28, 1934, in Tarboro, N.C., to the late Franklin T. and Beatrice Burnette.

Mr. Burnette retired from the U.S. Air Force as a technical sergeant after 20 years in 1971. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his military service he worked for Roadway as a truck driver over the road driving in Ohio for 10 years. Since then he worked on small engines and lawn mowers for friends and family.

He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Milford and enjoyed going to the Bay View Inn, in Bowers to be with his friends.

He enjoyed NASCAR and playing the Delaware Lottery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, John Langhoff; and two brothers, Joseph G. Burnette and Billy Burnette.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Ruth Dawn Holliger Burnette of Bowers Beach; five children, Teresa Mullins of Dover, Sharon Roberts and her husband, Louis of Bowers Beach, Robert Collier of Bowers Beach, May Collier of Bowers Beach and Michael Collier of Milford; four brothers, Franklin Burnette Jr., Earl Burnette, Woody Burnette and Kenneth Burnette, all of Tarboro; four sisters, Rose Mary Burnette, Bea Burnette-Herrick, Arena Webb, all of Tarboro and Margie Stalls of Virginia; 12 grandchildren, Chuck Shelton of Harrington, Gary Boyle of Bowers Beach, Breonne Mitchell of Smyrna, Angelo Eanes of Dover, Michael Fields of Bear, Catherine Barnes of Colorado, John Williams and Kaylee Collier, both of Milford, Crystal Collier and Robert Collier, both of Wilmington, Dominique Collier of Harrington and Buster Roberts of Felton; four great grandchildren, Tyler and Shelby Shelton, both of Harrington, Tymber Mitchell of Smyrna and Mars Barnes of Colorado.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover. Friends may call from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday.

Interment will be in Barratt"s Chapel, Frederica.
