DOVER - Arnecia Brown, affectionately known as "Neci," of Dover, departed this life March 19, 2007, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover. She was 67.
She was born on April 2, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Moses Percy and Clementine James Brown and was the second oldest of their five children.
She attended Nyack High School in Nyack, N.Y., where she lived with her grandmother, Essie Mae Boston for a period of time.
Neci was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Haverstraw, N.Y., where she was baptized at an early age. She also loved to play basketball in school despite her height.
Upon returning to New York, Neci worked at the Gambellos Sewing Factory as a seamstress for several years. Later she worked at Chemical Bank in Manhattan, N.Y. as a mail clerk.
Neci had a love for traveling, watching old movies and spending memorable moments with her family. She had a sharp memory and was the one person you could count on for knowing the details about anything or anyone in her family history.
During the course of her life Neci made of number of lifelong friends. Everyone who met her found her to be quiet and reserved but also very personable. She enjoyed a good time.
Neci was preceded in death by her eldest sister, Dolores Mitchell.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Brown and Tony Brown, both of New York; one daughter, Sandra Sims of Atlanta; one son-in-law, Freddie Sims; two sisters, Ruth A. Vicks of Dover and Della E. Brown of New York; one brother, Walter T. Brown of New York; a devoted brother-in-law, Overseer Earl Vicks Sr.; one sister-in-law, Yvonne Brown; five grandchildren, Andre, Ebony, Geneva, Ryan and Brent; two great-grandchildren; one uncle, William Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Sunday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover where friends may view two hours prior.
Burial will be in International Brotherhood of Yahshua"s Disciples, Inc in Parksley, Va.
