Anna Patricia Tobin, sister and aunt, departed this life due to complications of Alzheimer's on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019 at Cadia Capitol Nursing Home.
Born on Oct. 30, 1935, Pat was the youngest daughter of William F. and Jennie Elizabeth Tobin of Philadelphia, where she and her sister were raised.
Pat attended and graduated from West Catholic Girls High School in 1953. She furthered her education and was trained at Jefferson Hospital in radiation dosimetry. She worked at Jefferson for many years before moving her parents to West Chester, Pa., where she continued her career in radiation therapy. Pat enjoyed working in the medical field and helping others. She was a devoted daughter who lived with and cared for her parents until their death; at which time she moved to Milford for a short period of time and then to Clermont, Fla., where she resided and worked at South Lake Hospital for almost ten years. Although she had no children of her own, she lived a full life and deeply loved family. Many spring breaks were enjoyed by all at her home near Disney World. While living there, Pat enjoyed visits from her nieces and nephews and their young children. She, herself, was a kid at heart and so loved doing the Disney parks. Aunt Pat's home was always open to all. In 2005, she returned to Delaware to be closer to family and resided at Southern Meadows in Magnolia, where she met many new friends but was especially fond of time spent with her good friend, Ella Mae Hake.
Pat loved car rides to the beach, out in the country, or anywhere else that she could experience and enjoy nature and the outdoors. She looked forward to sunsets and spring flowers. She loved gardening, bird watching and working around her home. Pat enjoyed dining out with friends and talking long walks with her pup. Until her health condition made it impossible to do so, Pat was quite the story-teller. She fondly shared many stories of her family life in the city and her tight knit Irish Catholic upbringing. She was a do-it-yourself kind of person and wasn't afraid of anything or anyone. She adored her furry friends, especially her beloved lap dog Chorkie, Toby, who recently crossed the rainbow bridge in 2018. They could be found sitting out front in Southern Meadows enjoying a nice, sunny day. It was a given that her dog was her most precious possession.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Mary Jane Tobin, and nephews, George Washington, III and Christopher Washington.
Pat is survived by her sister, Sarah D. Washington (Shirley) of Lincoln; her nieces, Shirley Ann Morris (Greg) of Dover, Jennie Lynn Ratliffe of Lincoln; nephews, Bill Washington of Milford and David Washington of Lincoln; great nieces, Sarah Elizabeth Potter (Purnell IV) of Milford, Katie Lynn Kenton (Brandon) of Milford, Hannah Mae Morris, at home; nephews, Patrick M. Smith, Godson (Shannon) of Ellendale, Billy Washington (Starr) of Lincoln, Tyler Washington (Valerie) of Lincoln and Jared G. Morris of Trolley Square. She dearly loved her grand nieces and nephews, Hayden Kenton, Purnell Potter V, Sadie Lynn Washington, Paisley Ann Potter, Pailyn Elizabeth Potter, Gracie Lynn Washington, and Peyton J. Potter. Aunt Pat will be sadly missed by her entire family.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Pat's life at a funeral mass to be held on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at 12 p.m. at the Church of The Holy Cross, 631 State Street, Dover.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America in honor of Pat, her sister, and others afflicted by this debilitating disease at info@alzfdn.org.
