Anna Mae Stokes

Anna Mae Stokes, 77

MILFORD - Anna Mae Stokes of Milford passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at the Milford Center. She was 77.

Mrs. Stokes was born in Dover, daughter of the late Pauline (Nichols) and John E. "Husky" Quillen.

Her early years were spent growing up in Greensboro, Md., and she moved back to Delaware as a teenager.

Mrs. Stokes retired in 2001 from Milford Memorial Hospital after working 37 and a half years as a nurses aide.

She loved being with her family, bowling, crafts and reading.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard L. Stokes, in 1989; and a granddaughter, Stephanie A. Stokes, in 1998.

She is survived by her children, Debra L. Stokes of Frederica, Leonard G. Stokes of Lincoln, Steven A. Stokes of Harrington and Michael W. Stokes of Milford; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be noon Wednesday in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call one hour prior to services.

Interment will be in Milford Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, Memorial and Honor Program, 100 W. 10 St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801; or The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.
