Anna Lee Derrickson, 85

HARRINGTON - Anna Lee Derrickson, 85, passed away on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at her home surrounded by family. She was born on Sept. 11, 1923, in Harrington, the daughter of the late Frank Hudson Derrickson and Pearl Elizabeth Taylor Derrickson. She was a 1942 graduate of the former Harrington High School and a graduate of Goldey Beacom. She was a past member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrington where she sang in the choir and she was a past member and past president of the Toastmaster's Club. Anna Lee was employed for many years by John H. Annett. She worked in his store in Staytonsville, drove a school bus for Annett Bus Service and drove a bus for the Maryland School for the Blind to Baltimore. She worked at the Dover and Harrington Raceways and was self-employed as a bookkeeper. She assisted her brother, Donald, with the Harrington High School Alumni Association for over twenty-five years. Anna Lee loved to do crossword puzzles, word scrambles, jigsaw puzzles and playing scrabble. She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor. Anna Lee and her brother, Donald, were the nucleous of the Derrickson family. They had a steadfast love of family and friends. Their warmth, love and generosity made their home in Harrington the center ofmany family festivities and gatherings over the years where everyone came home to Harrington and many wonderful memories were made. Because of Anna Lee and Donald, the Derrickson family remains close today. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank M. Derrickson, Ernest M. Derrickson, and Donald W. Derrickson and by her sister, Pearl Elizabeth (Betty) Legates. Anna Lee is survived by one sister, Lois McHugh of Glenside, Pa. She was the beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews across the country. Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 200 Weiner Ave., Harrington. Burial is private in Hollywood Cemetery in Harrington. Memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice at: 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
