Alice Marguerite Jeffers

Alice Marguerite (Clark) Jeffers, 92

MILLINGTON, Md. - Alice Marguerite (Clark) Jeffers of Millington died Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, in Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 92.

Mrs. Jeffers was born Jan. 12, 1914, in Millington, daughter of the late Dennis and Mary (Bratcher) Clark.

She was known to many as the community babysitter for the town of Millington.

Mrs. Jeffers was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, Millington, where she served as communion steward for many years, and sang in the church choir.

She was also a member of the Chester River Hospital Center Auxiliary.

Mrs. Jeffers enjoyed cooking, singing and flower gardening, and was well known for her upside-down cake and rice pudding.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.

She is survived by her husband, Grayson L. Jeffers Sr.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Jean M. and Augustine Graves of Millington, Charlotte J. and Garvin Potts of Chestertown, Betty Henry of Millington and Iris J. and Ernest Needam of Townsend; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Grayson Jr. and Alice Jeffers of Chestertown and Mahlon L. and Joyce Jeffers of Middletown, Del.; three sisters, Ethel V. Cain and Mary L. Benson, both of Millington, and Mildred Stryckning of Chestertown; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in John Wesley United Methodist Church, Millington, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Pondtown.

Arrangements by Fellows and Helfenbein Funeral Home.
