TRAPPE, Md. - Zelda E. Simpkins, of Trappe, died Thursday, May 15, 2008, in the Caroline Hospice House, Denton. She was 78.
Born Aug. 10, 1929, in Marietta, Ohio, Mrs. Simpkins was the daughter of the late Emmitt Ray Halfhill and Effie Viola Davis Halfhill.
Her husband, Robert Lee Simpkins, died Sept. 15, 2000.
Mrs. Simpkins moved to the Eastern Shore from Virginia in 1973.
She worked for Murdoch Gardens in Easton until her retirement in July 2006.
She was a member of the Church of God Church in Easton.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Eva Wolf.
Mrs. Simpkins is survived by one daughter, Debbie L. Lehmann and her husband Bob of Denton; two stepsons, Robert Lee Simpkins Jr. of Salisbury, and Jessie Simpkins of Mardela Springs; three stepdaughters, Elsie Overton of Covington, Va., Mary Ann Landes of Salem, Va., and Nancy Casper of Hampton, Va.; three brothers, Johnny Halfhill of Delmar, Del., Billy Halfhill of Windsor, Va., and Ray Halfhill of Tyner, N.C.; five sisters, Jean Atkinson of Mesquite, Texas, Peggy Westerman of Seaford, Del., Ann Kimble of Felton, Del., Sue Klein of Redford, Mich., and Ruth Sutton of Greenville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Catherine Louise Lehmann and her boyfriend Daniel Mader of Long Island, N.Y., and Elizabeth Marie Lehmann of Denton; 20 stepgrandchildren; 32 step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
The interment will be in the Windy Hill Cemetery near Easton.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
