William Walter 'Doggie' Parsons, 80
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - William Walter "Doggie" Parsons of Chestertown died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, in University Specialty Hospital, Baltimore. He was 80.
Mr. Parsons was born Dec. 17, 1925, in Chestertown, son of the late John T. and Sallie (Jewell) Parsons.
He received an honorary diploma from Chestertown High School.
Mr. Parsons served with the Minute Men during World War II.
He worked as a commercial truck driver and heavy equipment operator. Over the years, he was employed at Glennon Milk Co., Nicholson Trucking, Tuck Davidson Excavation, David Bramble Inc., Chester River Boat Sales, Queen Anne's County Public Works and most recently Kent Co. Public Works.
He was a people person. He enjoyed working with the citizens of Kent and Queen Anne's Counties.
Mr. Parsons was a member of Chestertown Volunteer Fire Co., Crumpton Volunteer Fire Department, Kent County Fire Police and honorary member of Chester Harbor Property Owners Association. He loved working bingo at both fire departments and helping at Crumpton Volunteer Fire Department's monthly breakfasts. He also volunteered in Chester Harbor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl T. Parsons.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jean Coleman Parsons; two sons, Justin Parsons of Chestertown and Frank Elburn of Millington; a daughter, Donna Johnson of Church Hill; and five grandchildren, Chris Johnson, Vicki Johnson, Mandy Johnson, Jenna Elburn and Laurie Elburn.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech.
Services with Fireman's Honors will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church, High Street, Chestertown.
Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.
