William R. McCullough, 83
FELTON - William R. McCullough of Felton died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 83.
Mr. McCullough was born in Milford, son of the late Harry and Mildred McCullough.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In 1946, a few years after marrying, Mr. McCullough and his wife opened up a poultry and egg store in Prospect Park, Pa. They ran the store until they moved to Delaware in 1959. Mr. McCullough continued for a short time with his egg route in Pennsylvania after moving, at which time he became a full time farmer.
He enjoyed farming, working with his hands and working in general. Even while spending time in Florida he could be found working.
Mr. McCullough was an excellent problem solver and good at using his ingenuity. Nothing was a challenge to him because he could figure most anything out. He was also a good boss and had good delegation skills. These skills were often used on the children as they arrived home from school to complete their farm chores.
He will be remembered as a hard worker and good provider. He loved his family dearly, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He loved playing with them immensely.
Mr. McCullough knew no stranger and was very outgoing. As long as he was not working, he would take the time to talk and help out. He will be sadly missed by his family and close friends.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, June D. McCullough of Felton; two sons, William G McCullough of Felton and Robert H. McCullough of Harrington; a brother, James McCullough of Marcus Hook, Pa.; four sisters, Sarah Littlehale of Avon Park, Fla., Ann Dickerson of Smyrna, Jean Swain of Georgetown and Irma Prettyman of Harbeson; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington, where friends may call one hour earlier.
