DOVER - William Meredith Barr passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, after battling a long illness for several years.
He was born May 11, 1947, in Milford, Delaware, to the late Carl R. Barr, Sr. and Janet W. Barr.
Mr. Barr graduated from Felton High School in 1965. He served in the United States Coast Guard. He started working at his father's business, Barden Plumbing and Heating, Inc. in Dover. A few years later, he bought, owned and operated the business in Dover for 24 years. Subsequently, he worked for Dover Plumbing Supply and then, Kirk Plumbing Supply before retiring completely. He rewarded himself every Friday evening by taking his wife, Debbie, to The Dinner Bell. Years later, he enjoyed Plaza Nine and Cool Springs. He thoroughly loved his steamed crabs – extra salty – at Sambos. His hobbies were fishing, playing cards, bowling, shooting pool and golfing with his friends, especially Glen Killen.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Morris, of Chestertown, Md.
Mr. Barr is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Debbie Barr of Dover, Del.; his daughter, Jennifer Barr of Magnolia, Del.; his granddaughters, Alexis Taylor Slacum, Jessica Elizabeth Brooks; and his brother, Carl R Barr II of Harbeson.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road. Friends may visit one hour prior. Interment will be held at Henlopen Memorial Park on RT 1 in Milton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the SPCA or Delaware Humane Society.
