William J. "Bill" Lafferty Jr., 84

TOWNSEND - William J. "Bill" Lafferty Jr. of Townsend passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007, in Capitol Health Care, Dover. He was 84.

Mr. Lafferty was born Oct. 14, 1922, in Dover, the son of the late William J. and Jeannette Bennett Lafferty.

Mr. Lafferty worked as a postal carrier for the Dover Post Office for 32 years before retirement.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Lafferty enjoyed motorcycles, tractor shows and reading.

He was also a licensed pilot.

Mr. Lafferty was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Pat" Fouracre Lafferty; a son, William J. Lafferty III of Wilmington; two stepsons, Allen Willey of Troy, Mich., and Steven Willey of New Orleans; two step-daughters, Catherine "Kay" Rowe of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, and Melissa Schench of La Place, La.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be June 16 at 11 a.m. in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be June 19 at 11 a.m. in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
