HARTLY - William J. Kriss Jr., passed away surrounded by his family, on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, in Kent General Hospital, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 75. He was born on Aug. 7, 1933 in Long Island, N.Y., son of the late Phyllis (Walbroehl) and William J. Kriss Sr. William graduated from Greensboro High School in 1951. He worked for the family farm and later worked for Royal Typewriters for 25 years. He later joined the family company and worked for Kriss Contracting as an electrician until his retirement. His hobbies included traveling, fishing, oil painting and photography. He was a member of the Hartly Lions Club and was an usher of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marydel. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Veronica Kriss of Hartly; a son, William M. Kriss and his wife Lynn of Dover; and two daughters, Denise Kriss, and Kathleen Kriss, both of Marydel; grandchildren, Jennifer Harman, Janica Kriss, Nicholas Kriss, Robert, Eric and Alex Weissenfluh, and Preston and Susan Spicher; a great-granddaughter, Catherine Harman; twin brother, Robert Kriss and his wife Janet of Dover; two sisters, Dorothy Zimmerman and her husband Henry of Magnolia, and Elizabeth Spiering and her husband Glenn of Greensboro, Md.; sister-in-law and her husband, Sandy and Bob Virdin of Hartly; brother-in-law and his wife, Raymond and Pat Taraila of Hartly; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marydel, Md. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Hartly Fire Company, P.O. Box 28, Hartly, DE 19953; or Marydel Fire Company, 110 Firehouse Lane, Marydel, DE 19964; or the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, P.O. Box 399, Marydel, MD 21649.
