William Edwin Hermance, MD, FAAAAI died on June 10, 2024 at home in Camden, Delaware,
He was preceded in death by his parents George William and Hilara Euphrasia Blake Hermance and Granddaughter Emily Agnes Hermance.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Cecelia (Peggy) Hermance.
Others surviving include William E. Hermance Jr. (Sara), Catherine Hilara Chesser (Arthur), George William Hermance, II (Kim), Christopher Paul Hermance (Tricia). His five grandchildren are Dr. Meghan, Benjamin, George III, Caroline and Blake Hermance, and great grandchildren Ezra Ray, Juniper Ann and Ruby Jane Hermance. After graduating from White Plains, N.Y. high school, Dr. Hermance received his AB and MD degrees from the University of Rochester. He did postgraduate training at The Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan. He then served as a Major in the Coast Guard Public Health Service as Chief of Medicine at the Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield, Missouri.
Dr. Hermance, who was Board Certified, practiced allergy and immunology in White Plains and Manhattan. During his years in practice, Dr. Hermance served as President of The New York Allergy Society, the Westchester Allergy Society and the New York Medical Society allergy section as well as President of the University Club of White Plains. He was also Chief of Service at White Plains Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital. For most of his life, he was an active Rotarian.
In Dover, DE, he worked in the Kaza pediatric practice.
He has written several scientific papers and two medically themed books.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S State St, Dover, DE. The viewing will be held the night before, Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 6-8 p.m. at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E Lebanon Rd.
