William G. Stockton, 82

SMYRNA - William G. Stockton of Smyrna, formerly of Woodstown, N.J., died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 82.

Mr. Stockton was born Nov. 19, 1924, in Philadelphia, son of the late Earl C. and Carrie (Muller) Stockton.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force.

Mr. Stockton was deputy chief of police in Woodstown before retiring in 1980.

Following his retirement, he became an owner, trainer and driver of standardbred horses, a certified licensed harness racing official, and an associate judge working in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Florida.

He was a member of both the Florida and Delaware standardbred owners associations, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Delaware Chiefs of Police Association and the Fraternal Order of Police.

Mr. Stockton was also a member of Woodstown Lodge 138 A.F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite Consistory of New Jersey and the Lower Delaware Shield and Square Club. He attended lodge locally at Harmony Lodge 13 A.F. & A.M. in Smyrna.

Services and burial will be private.

Arrangements by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium Inc., 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
