William C. Hamilton Sr.

William C. Hamilton Sr., 83 DOVER - William C. Hamilton Sr., age 83, of Dover, died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, while convalescing in a Virginia nursing home. Bill was born on Sept. 26, 1926, in Scranton, Pa., to the late William and Sara Hamilton. He spent much of his youth in Rehoboth Beach, where he became one of the Beach Patrols youngest life guards. He was also a Sea Scout where and was awarded the Honor Medal for saving life for the ocean rescue of a downed air pilot. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the Navy where he served as a radioman during World War II. He was a graduate of the University of Delaware. He lived most of his life in Dover where most notably he was a 25 year member of the Robins Hose Co. and served a term as president. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane; son-in-law, Edward Maxwell; and sons, Chandler and Christopher, their wives Shannon and Lisa; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathy Maxwell. Services will be noon, Saturday, Jan. 16, at Christ Church, Dover.
