Wende Kernan Kromer, 65

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Wende Kernan Kromer, of Chesterdown, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, in Chester River Hospital, Chestertown. She was 65.

Wende, born Oct. 1, 1942, in Rochester, N.Y., was the daughter of the late Walter Kernan and Jeanne Watson.

After living in California briefly, Wende moved to Ann Arbor, Mich., where she graduated from University of Michigan and eventually settled in Western Massachusetts.

For 10 years, she worked with the Therapeutic Equestrian Center, four years as director, providing rehabilitation to the disabled.

In 1993, Wende relocated to Maryland and established Some Day Farm, keeping and boarding horses in addition to riding and teaching.

She found great joy in taking continuing education and art classes, in addition to volunteering at the Chester River Hospital.

Wende was an accomplished equestrian who loved to ride, compete and teach from an early age.

In addition to her constant equestrian activities, Wende was a lover of animals, art, culture, family and friends.

Wende was preceded by a son, Michael.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Gary Kromer; her son, Jules Bowie of New York City; a stepdaughter, Barbara Sweet of Friendswood, Texas; two brothers, Tim Kernan of Milton, Mass., and Walter Kernan of New Haven, Conn.; four sisters, Susan Wathen of South Berwick, Maine, Henrietta Kernan of Worchester, Mass., Eva Powers of Portsmouth, N.H., and Jennifer Schoessow of Superior, Wis.; five grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St.
