Ward T. Hitch, 77 DOVER - Ward T. Hitch, of Dover, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 77. He was born in Milford, on March 9, 1931, the son of the late Roscoe and Reba Parker Hitch. Ward graduated from Milford High School and Goldey-Beacom College. He continued his education with classes and seminars at Welsey College, Princeton University, Harvard Business School, and in house seminars at Reichhold Chemicals. Ward began his career as an accountant with Playtex Corp. He retired from Reichhold Chemical after 39 years, where he served as the Director of Purchasing and Transportation. He traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, England, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, and Japan. Ward was instrumental in the expansion of West Dover as first commercial strip west of the railroad tracks now know as Kent 8 Plaza. He was a long time member of Maple Dale Country Club. He enjoyed boating and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church Dover and a 32nd degree Mason and member of Temple Lodge 9 for 50 years. Ward was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, Clayton, and Parker; and his first wife, Constance (Connell) Hitch. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Marian (Howie) Hitch; stepsons, Stephen Sisson and his wife Vicky of Frederica, and John Sisson and his wife Carol of Newark; his precious granddaughter, Rachel Sisson; sister, Elizabeth Shea of Milford; brother, Marvin Hitch of Milford; and eight nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends was held in the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover. Mass of Christian Burial was held in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Holy Cross Church, 631 South State Street, Dover, DE 19901; American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720; or Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Regional Office, 2306 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19905.
