Walter Wesley White, 62
WOODSIDE, Del. - Walter Wesley White a beloved son and father and a Marine Corps veteran, passed away suddenly and tragically on February 21, 2022, at the age of 62. Walter was called to his heavenly home after he was struck by a vehicle while taking his daily walk on a sunny afternoon.
Walter was born on December 18, 1959, in New York City to James Perry White, Sr. and Carmen Maria Garcia-White. He attended school at Caesar Rodney High School, and by the age of 17 years, he begged his father to join the United States Marine Corps (USMC), following in his footsteps and serving multiple tours of duty. In his words, he "left a boy and came back a man." He served his first tour of duty in the Asia Pacific, primarily on the USS Iwo Jima and in Okinawa, followed by several deployments to include Desert Storm, Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Following his service, he spent the last decade of his life with family in Woodside, DE. You would often find Walter with his father at sponsored events for veterans at the Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The annual chili cook off was a main event, and there was a friendly, but fierce, rivalry between them. Of course, he confided in his siblings that he always let his dad win. Many people know Walter's legendary war stories. What they don't know is that, while protecting his country, Walter contributed to many communities when he was deployed and here at home, building orphanages; dropping food, water, and supplies to thousands of suffering families; and serving as a counselor for the WIC program. He was proud to defend his country, but he was even prouder of the humanitarian efforts he and his fellow soldiers and Marines provided to communities in need at home and abroad.
In what would be his last days, he brought constant comfort to his mother as they both mourned the loss of her husband and his father. In addition to his mother, Walter is survived by his children, Justin White (Nicole White), Anna Victoria White (Justin Morris), Wesley White (Alexis White), Grey White and her mother Jan, and Charles Anthony Harris (Brandi Harris) and his grandchildren Kellen, Hadley, and Mason. He is also survived by his five siblings Sharon Sáez (Rigoberto Sáez-Ortiz), James P. White, Jr. (Debra Spruill), Clara Abraham (Kermit Bargar), Harry (Gringo) Sickler White III, and Linda Colina (Michael Colina). He also had 16 nieces and nephews and 14 grand nieces and nephews. As a family, they pray that he may rest in peace knowing he will always be remembered with love. Semper Fi.
A memorial service will be held at a to be determined date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Walter's name to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
