Walter Lee Heverin

GREENSBORO - Walter Lee Heverin, 81, of Greensboro, Md., passed away on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on Jan. 27, 1933 in Townsend, Del. to the late William and Sadie Carroll Heverin. Mr. Heverin was educated in a one room school house located in Middletown, Del., and served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army. Following his time in the Army he worked for Service Trucking Company of Federalsburg and then as a heavy equipment operator at the Dover Air Force base retiring in 1978. After retiring he worked for Saulsbury Brothers of Ridgley. He believed that his most wonderful gift in life was his family and friends. He enjoyed reading, gardening, horse and dog racing, watching sports and playing cards. During his later years he had spent his winters in Florida and returned to Greensboro in the later Spring. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Beatrice Frase; and his siblings, Bill, Carroll, Pearl, Ed, Jim, Betty, Frank, Sadie and Ruth. Mr. Heverin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lillian J. Gerth Heverin; his children, Kenny Heverin(Electa), Donna Myers (Milton), Terry Holden (Ronnie) and Patty Shulties (Gary); his brother, Ralph Heverin; his sister, Daisey Bailey(Ron); his grandchildren, Amy Causey(Michael), Kristy Corkell(Thomas), Travis Shulties and Tabitha Mister; his great-grandchildren, Chelsey & Kassidy Townsend, Brooke Causey, Katie Webber, Bennett & Addison Newnam and a favorite cat Me-ME. A funeral service for Mr. Heverin will be on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home in Greensboro, where a visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in the Greensboro Cemetery. Please send donations in Mr. Heverin's name to the Caroline Humane Society, 407 W. Bell St., Ridgely, MD 21660.
