ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - Vivien M. Jives, of Elizabeth City, departed this life Thursday, March 13, 2008, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, due to respiratory failure. She was 69.
She was born Aug. 9, 1938, to the late Hazel and Herbert Mullen Sr. in Elizabeth City.
Vivien received her education in the Pasquotank County school system in Elizabeth City.
At an early age she became a member of Palmyra Community Church.
Later in life, Vivien moved to Delaware and became a member of St. Peter's Friends Church of Coolspring, under Rueben Alexander.
When she visited California she was a member of Light of the World Church in Riverside, Calif., under Pastor Lawrence Ash.
Some of her favorite pastimes were cooking, singing and crocheting.
Vivien was in many choirs at St. Peters' Friends Church and also a member of Sussex Community Choir.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Mullen, George Mullen and Otis Beasley; stepmother, Lessie Mullen; and niece, Jeannette Riddick.
She leaves to cherish her memories are five daughters, Antoinette Drummond (Stanford) and Gwendolyn Green-Davis (Matthew), both of Ellendale, Del., Sharita Bloe (Robert) of Riverside, and Jemsa Green and Sonya Banks, both of Wilmington, Del.; three brothers, Herbert Mullen Jr. (Joanna) of Lincoln, Del., Bruce Mullen of San Antonio, and George Beasley (Lottie) of Allentown, Pa.; nine sisters, Felicia Mullen of Lincoln, Annette Daniels (Jerome) of Bridgeville, Del., Carolyn Perry (Jeff) and Mary Beasley, both of Dover, Del., Beulah Johnson (Prezannie) of Georgetown, Alice Seymore and Mayce Rice (Kelsey), both of Elizabeth City, Marjorie Golden (Thomas) of Manteo, and Ernestine Wright of Buffalo, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Elenora Mullen of Elizabeth City; an uncle, Leroy Mullen Sr. of Georgetown; two aunts, Gentie Williams of Millsboro, Del., and Nellie Mullen of Elizabeth City; two goddaughters, Janet Watson and Sandy Watts; two longtime best friends, Lucy Reynolds and Elsie Edmonds; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Pentecostal Church of God, Lincoln, where friends may call one hour prior.
