MARYDEL, MD - Virginia "Ginger" Wooleyhan Jones passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Bayhealth Hospital in Dover, DE.
Ginger was born May 10, 1933 on a farm near Barclay, MD the daughter of the late James Alfred "Teddy" Wooleyhan and Louise Anderson Wooleyhan. She was Class Valedictorian of the 1951 graduating class of Sudlersville High School, which was the first Sudlersville High School class to graduate with 12 years. Ginger was married to Charles Lloyd Jones for 65 years and they had four children, Glenn, Sharon, Diane and David Jones.
She worked as a secretary for Playtex in Dover, Van Holtens in Kenton, Sudlersville Bank of MD, Town Clerk/Treasurer for the Town of Sudlersville and secretary for over 30 years for Dixon's Auction in Crumpton.
Ginger was an active member of Downs Chapel Church and served as secretary, Sunday school teacher and Ladies Group Treasurer. She was a leader for Queen Anne's County Poultry and Egg 4H and FFA, she served as an Election Judge for the Sudlersville Polls, member of the Templeville Homemakers Club, secretary for the MarDel camping club and secretary for more than 40 years for the Sudlersville High School Alumni Association. She enjoyed gardening, growing and arranging flowers, canning vegetables. Ginger loved life, hard work, Church, God, America, the farm and especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lloyd Jones; one sister, Patricia Chance; one brother, Dickie Wooleyhan; and one daughter, Diane Cahall.
She is survived by her children, Lloyd Glenn Jones (Cindy) of Marydel, MD, Sharon J. Lockwood (Mark) of Marydel, MD, David W. Jones (Judy) of Centreville, MD; one sister, Alice W. Calloway of Centreville, MD; ten grandchildren, Nicholas Cahall (Racheal), Eric Lockwood (Arika), Erin Anderson (Ryan), Scott Cahall (Jessica), Derek Jones (Megan), Shannon Lockwood, Sara Stevenson (Mike), Shala Sortino, Beau Sortino, Gabrielle Bennett; and nine great grandchildren, Eric Smith, Brenden, Will, Ethan, Brody, Ayden, Emma, Bryce, and Lucas.
A visitation was held Monday, November 20, 2023 from 6-8pm at Fellows Family Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St., Millington, MD 21651. Services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023 at 11am at Downs Chapel Church, 2168 Sudlersville Rd., Clayton, DE 19938. Interment followed the service in Sudlersville Cemetery in Sudlersville, MD.
