CENTREVILLE, Md. - Virginia M. Lord, 87, of Centreville, died Oct. 14, 2011, in Chester River Hospital, Chestertown. Mrs. Lord was born on Jan. 27, 1924, daughter of the late George E. and Lula Tate Stubbs. She had lived most of her life near Centreville and since 1947 has lived in the home which her and her husband built. With a love for cooking Mrs. Lord worked in cafeterias for Centreville High School, Gunston School and Chestertown's Drug Fair. She also helped care for the elderly. Mrs. Lord was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William H. 'Bill' Lord in 1989; and two sisters, Dorothy Simpler and Louise Walters. She is survived by her two children, Susan Ervin (George) of Centreville and William H. Lord, Jr. (Alice) of Barclay; three brothers, George E. Stubbs, Jr. of Chestertown, William F. Stubbs of Marydel, Del., and John R. Stubbs of Centreville; a sister, Patricia Holt of Snow Hill; one granddaughter, Mary Claire Ervin; and two great-grandchildren, Douglas C. Cocklin, Jr. and Channing Blake Cocklin. Friends may call on Monday, Oct. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech,118 W. Cross St. Galena, where funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. Burial in Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville.
