DOVER - Virginia M. Dewey of Dover died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 85.
Mrs. Dewey was born Feb. 13, 1922, in New Church, Va., to David F. and Mollie (Bunting) Miles. She was married to Fred W. Dewey, who preceded her in death in 1977.
She was an elementary school teacher, teaching in Virginia and then teaching second grade at Nellie Hughes Stokes Elementary School in the Caesar Rodney School District, for a total of 40 years.
Mrs. Dewey"s other activities included being a poll volunteer, working part-time at Cook & Smith Florist and baking pies for local restaurants. She volunteered with the Ostomy Association and Multiple Sclerosis Society, was active with the Democrat Party in the 70s and 80s and loved fishing in the Delaware Bay.
Surviving are two sons, Fred W. Dewey Jr. and his wife Glenna of Dover and David W. Dewey and his wife Anita of Magnolia; a grandson, Jeremiah Dewey and his wife Mika of Hawaii; a granddaughter, Christine Landrau and her husband Ozzie of Brunswick, Ga.; a grandson, Shawn Dewey and his wife Mary Pat of Townsend; and a great-granddaughter, Celeste Landrau.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover. Visitation will be on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral chapel. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
