Virginia Hearne

DOVER - Virginia "Gin" Hearne, of passed away on Nov. 21, 2012, in Bear. Born to the late Amos, Sr. and Tacie Davis Hazzard in Slaughter Neck, Del. on Oct. 21, 1923. She was a retired school teacher from Capital School District of Dover. At an early age she was converted into Christianity and became a member of Siloam AME Church where she remained a faithful and loyal member. She served as member and President of the Usher Board for many years and loved training and working with the ushers. She was a member and President of the Stewardess Board, a member of the Missionary Society of Siloam and Delaware Conference WMS, the Willing Member Workers Club, she was a hostess and greeter of the Dining Room Committee and a member and President of the Pastors Aid Organization. On July 30, 1950 she was married to the late Monroe Hearne and united to this family was one son, Robbie. Throughout the years, Virginia had been involved in the following organizations: Delaware State University Alumni Association, Delaware State University Booster Association, National Education Association, Association of Retired Persons, and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), National Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Modern Maturity. She was preceded in death by husband, William Monroe Hearne; three sisters, Marie Richardson, Henrietta Winstead and Sarah Green; and two brothers, Amos and Maxwell Hazzard. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Robbie of Bear; sister, Malinda Horne from Slaughter Neck; Goddaughter, Michelle Gordon-Okinola of New Castle, Del.; Godson, Darryl Dodson from East/North Port, N.Y.; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Mt. Zion ZME Church, 101 N. Queen Street, Dover, DE 19904. Funeral will follow. Interment at the Sharon Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to William Monroe Hearne Scholarship Fund. Checks can be mailed to 13 Taylor Drive, Dover, DE 19904-2243.
