Virginia Dare Greene, 66

DOVER - Virginia D. Greene was born March 16, 1943, in Falkland, N.C. She departed this life on Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford. She was 66. A graduate of C.M. Epps High School in Greenville, N.C., she received her Bachelors' Degree in Elementary Education from Elizabeth City State College in Elizabeth City, N.C., and a masters' degree of Education from Salisbury State College, Salisbury, Md. She retired as an English and Reading teacher from the Capital School District in Dover in 1998 after 30 years of service. She was a dedicated member of the Whatcoat United Methodist Church in Dover serving in many capacities, and was an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She leaves to mourn: her loving husband, Charles A. Greene; her devoted daughter, Rev. Shonda R. Greene of Dover; her mother, Emma Whitehurst of Greenville, N.C.; mother-in-law, Thelma T. Greene of Delmar; and many relatives and friends. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division Street, Dover. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Whatcoat United Methodist Church, Saulsbury, Road, Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in the Sharon Hill Memorial Gardens, Dover. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook may be signed at www.benniesmithfuneralhome.com.
