Violet Turk Elliott, 85

MASSEY, Md. - Violet Turk Elliott, 85, of Massey, died Oct. 14, 2009, in Chester River Hospital, Chestertown. Mrs. Elliott was born on April 5, 1924, in Chatham, N.Y., daughter of the late William and Florence Fuller Turk. She was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a BA in psychology Degree. Her 30 year career began with C & P Telephone moving to A T & T and retiring from Verizon as an executive in 1978. Her memberships include St. Clements Episcopal Church, the Telephone Pioneers, was a Life member of the Galena Vol. Fire Co. with EMT certification, and was a volunteer for the Kent County Red Cross serving as manager for 7 years. Mrs. Elliott enjoyed playing the organ, camping, traveling with her family and her pets including Beagle dogs, miniature horses and cats. She was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Carnwright; and grandson, David Lee Jenkins. Mrs. Elliott is survived by her husband of 66 ½ years, Donald J. Elliott; a daughter, Faye Carpenter of Monton; two grandchildren, Tina Marie Powell, and Jeanne Ann Jenkins; and two great-grandchildren, David and Sarah Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. Burial will be held privately in LakeView Cemetery, Sykesville. Memorials may be offered to St. Clements Church or Galena Vol. Fire Co. c/o the funeral home.
