SANDTOWN - Violet S. Walls of Sandtown went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 1, 2007. She died in her home, after a brief illness, at the age of 83.

Mrs. Walls was born near Felton on Jan. 23, 1924, the eighth child of the late Clifford G. and Eva Maude (Dodd) Holden.

She retired from International Playtex of Dover in 1967, after more than 17 years of service.

After retirement from Playtex, Mrs. Walls volunteered many hours for the Modern Maturity Center, Dover, where she gained many friends. She also worked at Dover Downs during racing season.

In her spare time, she loved to go to yard sales and work in her flower beds.

Mrs. Walls was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Norman O. Walls, on Dec. 10, 1977. She was also predeceased by five sisters, Mildred Semans in 1992, Jenny Morris in 1975, Mary and Ruth Holden, both in 1920, and Susie V. Bell in 1995; and two brothers, Clifford "Buster" Holden in 1930, and Hollis Holden in 1918.

Mrs. Walls is survived by four daughters, Norma Jean Jolly of Frederica, Joyce A. Poore of West Palm Beach, Fla., Doris W. Paniere of Marydel, and Joan C. Erhart and her husband Donald of Smyrna; 10 grandchildren, Robin Parsons, Penny Hendricks, Karen Flores, Steve Nemith, Brian Poore, Eric W. Paniere, Dawn Karbaum, Aimee DeBendictis, Lori Erhart and Donna Hurtt; 10 great-grandchildren, Tyler Parsons, Andrea Hendricks, Korey Hendricks, Anthony Flores, Christina Flores, Michael Flores, Eric W. Paniere Jr., Erica Paniere, Emily Karbaum and Audrey Karbaum; a great-great-grandchild, Seyonna N.D. Hughes; a sister, Kathryn Holden of Hartly; a special niece and nephew, Charles Foraker of Sandtown and Genevieve Glover of Denton; and many other nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, where friends may call after 11 a.m. The Rev. Milton Kemp will be officiating.

Interment will be held in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Sandtown.

Memorials may be made to Delaware Hospice, Kent County Unit, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
