Victor T. Golden Sr., 84

WYOMING - Victor T. Golden Sr., of Wyoming, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, in his home. He was 84.

He was born on Aug. 23, 1923, in Hazlettville, son of the late Ruby and Thomas Golden.

Victor was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was part of a machine gun unit called the Merrill Marauders. His unit was a behind the lines action unit, which fought the Japanese.

Victor was part of the China, Burma, India unit. For his valiant service he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a retired union meat cutter and had worked most of his life for A&P in Dover.

His many hobbies included reading, history, gardening and was a sports enthusiast especially baseball and football.

He loved to fish and play a good game of horseshoes.

Victor will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was a member of the Felton United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Carol Golden in 2003; and a brother, Arley B. Golden.

He is survived by a son, Victor T. Golden Jr. and his wife Thomasena of Wyoming; a step- grandson, Russell Derrickson of Wyoming; a daughter, Catherine Parker and her husband James of Seaford; granddaughter, Melissa Dutterer and her husband Clark of North East, Md.; a great-granddaughter, Carolyn Margaret Dutterer; sisters-in-law, Madeline Kling of Camden, Genevieve Irwin of Royal Oak, Mich., and Sally Golden of Wilmington; several nieces, nephews and his church family and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call two hours before services.

Interment will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
