Vernardean (Verna) Lee Brooks passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.Verna was born August 23, 1934, in Elkins, West Virginia to the late Elmer and Frannie Cowger.
Verna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and soon to be great-great-grandmother. After graduating from high school, in 1953, Verna married her first husband, Robert (Bob) Beckner, and moved from West Virginia to Delaware where she began working at Wiltex Textiles. She went on to create a beautiful home and raise her and Bob's two children, Ronald and Brenda. After her and Bob's retirement, she moved to Galax, Virginia where she lived for several years and cared for Bob through sickness until his passing in 2009. She found love again and moved back to Delaware with her second husband, William (Bill) Brooks where they lived happily until his passing later that year.
Verna loved spending time with family and friends, bowling, gardening, knitting, cooking delicious meals from scratch, traveling around the country and watching baseball games.
In addition to her parents; Verna was preceded in death by her husband, William Brooks; her first husband, Robert Beckner and their two children Ronald Beckner and Brenda Beckner.
Verna is survived by her brother, Lester Cowger of Englewood, CO; her grandchildren, Mark Beckner of Reston, VA, Heather Sinclair of Camden, DE, and Jason Sinclair of Jacksonville, FL; her great-grandchildren, Abbagail, Olivia, Madelyn, Alex, Gracyn, Parker, and Blake; and an already beloved great-great-granddaughter on the way.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, August 21, 2023, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt. 10), Dover. A visitation will be held from 12-1pm.
