Venettia D. Abrams, 94

BRONX, N.Y. - Venettia D. Abrams, of Bronx, N.Y., departed this life on Dec. 28, 2008, in Columbian Presbyterian Hospital. She was 94. Venettia, formerly of Delaware, was a long time resident of New York City; a woman of strength, independence, character and grace. She received her early school education in Kent County later moving to New York at the age 16, where she worked in various capacities. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Dorphine Harris Abrams; brothers, Maurice, Ferris, Howard, Walter and Samuel; and sisters, Julia, Pauline, Virginia and Ida. Left to cherish her loss and memories are nephews, Nathaniel Benson, Ferris, Reynolds, Ronald, Walter, William and most devoted Jerome Abrams; nieces, Dorphine Rojas, Marie Saunders and Faye Yelverton with a host of other relatives and friends. With sisters-in-law, Alice and Carrie Abrams and Dorothy Bryant. Services will be held 11 a.m Saturday at the First Pilgrim Baptist Church in Camden, Del. Viewing is two hours before the service with burial in the Sharon Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, Del.
