DOVER - Velma Almeta Evans-Wayman, of Dover, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, after a long illness. She was 57.
Services will be 7 p.m. Friday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, where friends may view two hours prior.
David P. Dowty, 79
DOVER - David P. Dowty, of Dover, passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 79.
Mr. Dowty was born April 4, 1928, in Olton, Texas, the son of the late James L. and Martha Finney Dowty.
He retired as a master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force where he worked as a flight engineer at Dover Air Force Base, Dover. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Mr. Dowty was a master gardener as well as a musician.
His hobbies included sailing and fishing.
Dave was a friend of Bill W.
He is survived by his wife, Ann (Stinson) Dowty; two sons, David S. Dowty and his wife Lois of Clayton and J. Michael Dowty and his wife Linda of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Valorie Thomas and her husband Allan of Dover; three brothers, Jim Dowty and Ed Dowty, both of Texas, and Frank Dowty of Washington; four sisters, Delle Moore, Clara Harp, Ann Heck and Nell Hanley, all of Texas; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be noon Friday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
