GREENWOOD - Thomas J. News of Greenwood died peacefully Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, in his home, with his loving wife present. He was 60.
Mr. News grew up in Brookhaven, Pa., son of the late Elmer and Helen News.
He graduated from St. James High School in 1965.
Mr. News worked for 13 years for Stall Enterprises and became self-employed and sold used cars.
After living for 40 years in Brookhaven, he moved his family to Delaware
Mr. News loved his dogs. He and his wife, Lorraine, had a kennel raising dogs for a good many years. In his youth, he loved his hot rods and muscle cars. Throughout high school, he was very active and played on the football and baseball teams. He was affiliated with professional boxing later in life and was an avid pool player. He will be remembered as a loving husband, a good father and a very proud grandfather. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye, always bringing him great joy when they were around.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lorraine; a daughter, Tara Marie News, and her husband, Michael Decker, of Greenwood; a son ,Thomas J. News of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Maiden Lynn, Tyler John and Meadow Rose; and three sisters, Joan Smith of Ridley Park, Pa., Cynthia Naurie of Hockessin and Judy Tyne of Boothwyn, Pa.
Memorial services will 1 p.m. Saturday in the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. Du Pont Highway, Harrington, where friends may call one hour earlier. Carlton Goodhand will officiate.
