KENNEDYVILLE, Md. - Thelma E. Willis of Kennedyville died Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, in Chester River Manor nursing home, Chestertown. She was 85.
Mrs. Willis was born in Ward, W.Va., daughter of the late Robert and Bessie Short Deel.
She worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Dover, Del., for many years.
She enjoyed flowers, and loved her family deeply.
Mrs. Willis, her late husband and two other couples were instrumental in the formation of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 652 in Millington. She was very active for many years in the Auxiliary of the post, serving the area veterans' hospitals and other resources served by the post.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Merritt Willis.
She is survived by a daughter, Willadean Reher of Kennedyville; a son, Leo Willis of Pleasanton, Calif.; a sister, Mary Deel of Cedar Grove, W.Va.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St., Millington, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Committal services will 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock.
