Teresa Ruth Wood

RIDGELY, Md. - Teresa Ruth Wood of Ridgely, MD, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at the Envoy of Denton. She was 87 years old. Born March 22, 1926 in Ridgely, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Charles Wood and Elizabeth Lawless Wood. She graduated from the Ridgely High School and attended the University of Maryland. Following her schooling, Ms. Wood supervised a laboratory for Sealtest Dairy Company in Wilmington, DE; supervised a laboratory at Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury, MD; and co-owned and managed Colonial Woods Drive-in restaurants in Denton and Wye Mills, MD. Subsequently, she managed the Caroline Country Club in Denton, MD, and then the Chester River Yacht and Country Club in Chestertown, MD until she retired to care for her sister Alice in Ridgely. Ms. Wood was best known for her long years of volunteer service for St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Ridgely. She was a member of the Blessed Virgin Mother Ladies' Sodality at St. Benedict's and a member of the Benedictine Oblates Affiliated with St. Gertrude's Monastery in Ridgely. She was also proud to be a Minister of Holy Communion, both to the sick and within the liturgy. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the Diocese of Wilmington, Ms. Wood was a recipient of the Order of Merit from Bishop Michael A. Saltarelli on October 2, 2005 – the first year it was awarded. Ms. Wood is survived by her nieces and nephews, Raymond and Sonja Wood of Lothian, Md., Joseph and Barbara Wood of Greensboro, Md., Dorothy and Harold Arbogast of Bear, Del., Regina and Robert Daniels of Townsend, Del., William Eveland of Ridgely, Steve and Lynn Wood of Sherwood, Md., Rose Marie Wood of Ridgely, Kenneth and Betsy Wood of Denton, Barbara Wood of Denton, William Greaves of Chicago, Ill., and Beth Meredith of Denton. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her brothers and sisters, Alice Eveland, Stephen Wood, Raymond Wood, and Mary Greaves. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2013, at the St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, 400 Central Ave. in Ridgely where friends may visit with family members for one hour prior to the service. The interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery on Rt. 313 near Greensboro. If friends wish to send memorial donations, the family suggests sending them to the St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, PO Box 459, Ridgely, MD 21660 to be used to help the poor.
