At the age of 77 Sylvia was laid to rest beside her late husband of 37 years, Major Hurd III. Sylvia was a loving wife, mother of four, grandmother of twelve and a great grandmother of thirteen. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary Davis of Willow Grove, Del. She is survived by a son, William M. Hurd of Ellendale; daughter, Susan Owens; and husband, George of Ellendale; daughter, Cheryl Carroll and fiancé', Stacey of Millsboro; daughter, Elaine Noll and significant other, Bob Bower of Lincoln; brother, William Davis of Willow Grove; sister in law, Dorothy Fry of Harrington; and brother in law, Jack Hurd and wife Virginia. Sylvia was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Davis; three sisters, Patricia Sullivan, Dorothy Seamans and Emily Ferguson; and three grandchildren. Sylvia will be missed by family and friends dearly. Funeral services will be Friday, April 10, 2015 at 1:00 in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, DE 19963, where friends may call for 11:00 to 1:00 for a viewing. Interment will be Mt. Olive Cemetery, Sandtown, Delaware. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to Delaware Hospice 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Delaware 19963.
