Wilson, Jr., 69 HARTLY - Sylvester S. Wilson, Jr.'s life came to a quiet close on Wed., July 17, 2013 when he went to be with the Lord. He was born Oct. 11, 1943 to the late Sylvester Wilson, Sr. and Virginia Wisher in Wilmington, Del. Sylvester received his education in the public schools of Kenton and Booker T. Washington in Dover, Del. He graduated from William Henry High School where he was an avid sports lover. He had a real passion for football, and was an outstanding player, and made All-Star in the sport. He also loved Track & Field. Sylvester also played in the band; playing one of the largest instruments there is, "the tuba". On Oct. 11, 1968, Sylvester was wed in Holy Matrimony to Rose M. Ford, and from this union two children were born. Sylvester served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1967, and received an honorable discharge as an E-5. He was also employed with the sanitation department, as well as the Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronically Ill; both in Smyrna, Del. After leaving DHCI he became employed at Playtex, and after 39 years of dedicated service, he retired from there. Soon after his retirement he decided to become an entrepreneur and opened a restaurant, the "Dover Dog Grille", in the Dover area. Business was successful enough that he later branched out and opened a second establishment in the Milford area. "Shake", as he was referred to by both family and friends, and was relied upon for many things; for he had the strength and the character to always seem to know the right thing to say or do. He was loved and admired by many for his ability to give a helping hand when you were in need. Sylvester leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 44 years, Rose M. Wilson of Hartly; son, Sylvester S. Wilson, III of Dover; and daughter, Deidra L. Wilson also of Dover; he will be deeply missed by his sister, Commissioner Dr. Linda Hackett (Donald) of Dover; two brothers, Richard S. Wilson of Clayton and Donald L. Wilson (Bridgette) of Brunswick, Ga.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Our love goes with you, and our souls wait to join you. A viewing for Sylvester will take place at the Pippin Funeral Home in Wyoming, on July 25, 2013 from 9 to 11 a.m.; his service will take place at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Barratts Chapel Cemetery in Frederica.
