Sussex Tech High School welcomes new principal

GEORGETOWN — Sussex Technical High School has announced that John Baugher will be the school’s new principal.

He will join Sussex Tech on Saturday.

Mr. Baugher started his career in 1991, as a social studies teacher in Carroll County, Maryland. Later, he worked in Carroll County Public Schools’ administration as an assistant principal and principal in three high schools.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Salisbury University, where he also played defensive back on the football team. His master’s degree in administration is from McDaniel College.

While teaching, Mr. Baugher coached football, lacrosse and tennis, and served as an adviser for many clubs.

Additionally, he was a Maryland Department of Education Service Learning Fellow and presented nationally on the importance of having an infused service learning program. He also redesigned the high school social studies curriculum for Carroll County.

In 2015, Mr. Baugher was selected Maryland’s High School Principal of the Year. Plus, he and his high school’s leadership team were named a 2016 National School of Character by Character.org and presented at the Schools of Character National Forum, Atlanta.

Mr. Baugher, the father of two adult children, also enjoys officiating lacrosse, hiking and spending time near the water.
