Susann Vesta Mills MILFORD - Susann Vesta Mills, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, January 6, 2010, in Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford, after a courageous battle with kidney disease. She was 66. Susann was born November 2, 1943 in Milford, daughter of Fannie Mae (Jackson) Mills and the late Eugene J. Mills. She graduated from Milford Senior High School with the Class of 1961, living all of her life in Cedar Neck, which she loved to refer to as "God's Country". Susann worked for many years as a supervisor for MarClay Hosieries in Milford and retired after 30 years in customer service from the Acme Market in Milford in 1995. Susie had a special ability to communicate with all of God's creatures and filled her leisure time while working and after retirement picking up animals that needed a good home and doctoring those that needed it, back to health. She also enjoyed teaching country line dancing and entertaining crowds as a DJ at her favorite spots. Susie will always be remembered by her quick wit, endearing personality, dare-devilish actions, and strong will. She was an avid hunter and a member of the Coon Hunters Club, a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge 534, the Milford Elks Lodge 2401, and enjoyed years of singing gospel with the group "Melody Ringers" associated with the Cedar Neck Church. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Howard E. Wilkins; and her husband, Bruce Gravenor. She is survived by a daughter, Vesta Laremore and her husband, Jeff; a son, William "Bill" Hopkins and his wife, Stacey; her mother, Fannie Mae Wilkins; two brothers, Eugene D. Mills and his wife, Etta, and Paul J. Mills and his wife, Barbara; a sister, Fay Veal, all of Milford; six grandchildren, Shelby Parris, Colby Jester, Kristi Hopkins, Ashlee Hopkins, Katie Hopkins and William "Buddy" Hopkins; four great-grandchildren, Hayden, Alexa, Colyn and Zoie; her special neighbor and lifelong friend, who cared for her daily after her illness, Jill Sapp; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and the Wilkins family. Services were 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends called two hours prior. Interment was at Cedar Neck Cemetery, Route 36, Milford. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Memorial Fire Company, 359 Bay Ave., Milford, DE 19963; or to the Elks Lodge 2401, 18951 Elks Lodge Rd., Milford, DE 19963.
