BRIDGEVILLE - Suprenia Norwood Griffin, age 45, of Bridgeville, surrounded by her family, departed this life on Feb. 25, 2011, at the Delaware Hospice Center after a long illness. Prenia, as she was affectionately known, was born on Aug. 10, 1965, to the late Mildred E. Hitchens Norwood and Frederick "Bozzie" Norwood. She was educated in the Indian River School District and graduated from Indian River High School in 1983. She excelled at sports in high school and in community leagues, but held a special love for softball. Prenia was a member of the Living Word Christian Center in Laurel, under the leadership of Pastor Andre Mollock. She was a faithful and proud member of the Nanticoke Indian Association and the Queen of Sheba #4 Eastern Star P.H.A. of Delaware. However, her proudest accomplishment was the birth of her only child, Montoya "Tinkerbell" Norwood. Prenia remained a solid rock for her daughter, even through her illness. If anyone would fail to remember, Prenia would gladly remind you, "That's my daughter!" She loved to talk to anyone who would listen and never met a stranger. During her early years, she was employed at several nursing homes and poultry plants. In later years, she was employed by Stockley Center. There she provided excellent service to her clients and dedicated herself to supporting her co-workers. Prenia retired from Stockley Center after 15 years of service due to her declining health. Prenia leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Montoya; stepdaughters, Navatesha and Jasmine Taylor; her grandmother, Janie B. Norwood; brothers, Frederick Norwood Jr. (Cathy), Richard Norwood (Velma), Kevin Norwood, William Norwood (Conda) and Eldred Norwood (Sherri); sisters, Vanesssa Richards, Selena Ross (Albert), and Montoya Palmer; a special aunt, Marlene Pritchett; and special cousins, Dave and DeRoin Pritchett. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2011, at the St. John's 2nd Baptist Church, Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Friends may also call on Thursday evening at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Annie Jane Custis will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the adjoining church cemetery. Letters of condolence may be emailed via www.watsonfh.com.
