BRIDGEVILLE — A 55-year-old Bridgeville man faces more than two dozen felony firearm charges after being arrested by Delaware State Police Nov. 6.
Members of the agency’s Firearms Transaction and Purchasing Unit and Special Operations Response Team went to a residence on the 11000 block of Silent Hill Road in Bridgeville that day following an investigation of the suspect, Richard Banks, for alleged possession of firearms or ammunition by a prohibited person.
Detectives contacted Banks, who allegedly was in possession of a concealed handgun while trespassing on an adjacent property, and took him into custody without incident.
A consent search of the residence led to the discovery of the following items, police said: a Desert Eagle .44-caliber handgun, Sig Sauer SP2340 and P938 handguns, a Sig Sauer M-400 rifle, Remington 870 12-gauge shotgun, Remington 870 20-gauge shotgun, Remington 1100 12-gauge shotgun, Remington 700 .308-caliber rifle, Marlin .17-caliber rifle, Mossberg 640 .22-caliber rifle and assorted ammunition.
Troopers arrested Banks, who is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition, and took him to Troop 5. Authorities levied felony charges against Mr. Banks for carrying a concealed deadly weapon (a firearm); 12 counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony; 11 counts of possession of a firearm or destructive weapon by a person prohibited with a prior conviction for use, possession or sale of drugs and a previous conviction for a violent felony; and possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited because of a prior violent crime or felony. He also has been charged with third-degree criminal trespassing.
Mr. Banks was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $86,001 secured bond.
